Paras Bassuk, a psychology major who will graduate in May, was one of 32 students selected for the 2025 Rhodes Scholarship from more than 800 nominees from across the U.S. Bassuk will study for two years at the University of Oxford in England, pursuing degrees in comparative social policy and socio-legal research. Using fruit flies, Israel Wipf, a fourth-year graduate student in the Department of Biology, is researching how cancer cells feed off fat to move and spread. Wipf presented his research at this year’s Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, where he won the top prize. The contest asks graduate students to clearly explain their complex research in three minutes or less.

The UI has received a gold rating from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education’s Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, and Rating System. The city of Iowa City has begun planning to replace the Burlington Street bridge, which sees heavy traffic each day and serves as a connection between the east and west sides of the UI campus. Cambus fall break service will run Nov. 22—30 with reduced frequency on some routes. If you need service after 8:45 p.m. during break, use the on-demand shuttle that you can schedule via the Cambus Now app. Cambus will not operate Nov. 23—24 and Nov. 28—30, except football shuttles on Nov. 29.
