Iowa City Free Medical and Dental Clinic Celebrates Its 50-Year Anniversary

For over 50 years, the Iowa City Free Medical and Dental Clinic has served the local community and partnered with the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics. Numerous College of Dentistry faculty, staff, and students have been vital to the success of the free dental clinic.

Third-Year Dental Student Sydney Woods Featured in the Dare to Discover Campaign

Sydney Woods is part of the Dental Student Research Program, and her mentor is Sukirth Ganesan, assistant professor in the Department of Periodontics. She is researching Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) and its effect on the oral environment.

Woods said of her experience: "Doing research at Iowa has helped me to read scientific literature and grow into a more independent and evidence-based practitioner. Working with Dr. Ganesan, he gives me the freedom to discuss the concepts and plan the project and execute it myself. I also get an opportunity to teach and collaborate with my colleagues. It gives me a lot of confidence going into the future with treatment planning and patient interactions."
