The Office of the Vice President for Research’s Arts and Humanities Initiative will fund five projects that allow Iowa faculty to create new scholarly and creative works. Read more about the projects, from creating a concerto with a Grammy-nominated composer to filming a documentary about a family of artists.

Last year, the continuous solar wind on Mars suddenly ceased. The rare event was captured by the Solar Wind Ion Analyzer instrument on MAVEN, which was designed and built at Iowa. A group of researchers recently published a study on what occurred, co-authored by Jasper Halekas, professor in the UI Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Some sisters share hobbies, but these three share a career path. Sarah, Hailey, and Katie Kingsbury all were accepted into Iowa’s clinical doctoral program in audiology, ranked No. 2 nationally and consisting of just six to 12 students. While having similar beginnings, each sister is forging their own path to helping others.

Thanks to a grant from the Grammy Museum Grant Program, early Czech music soon will be more accessible to the UI community, the state of Iowa, and listeners everywhere. The funds will be used by the UI’s Rita Benton Music Library to digitize and preserve early Czech music, poetry, stories, and comedy from 1903 to 1908 that is preserved on more than 170 wax cylinders donated to the university.
