Director's Note

As the summer comes to a close, and we enter a new academic year, I am excited to be the new Interim Director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. I have been a professor in SJMC since 2011 and served as the Director of Undergraduate Studies from 2018-2021. Coralville Media Collaborative Logo

The Coralville Media Collaborative, directed by Associate Professor Rachel Young, connects SJMC students and classes with community organizations and small businesses in Coralville, Iowa. The goal is to help our students learn professional media skills while supporting the transformative work already happening in Coralville. Last year, students in seven classes collaborated with six community partners in Coralville. This year, students will continue to work with community partners in class settings and through a new community-based internship program that we will be launching this fall. Stay tuned for more news on the CMC!

Last spring, we inducted seven students into the journalism honor society, Kappa Tau Alpha. These outstanding students were recognized in a spring ceremony and are off to do great things. Top Scholar Grace Wenstrom (B.A. 2022) is starting law school at the University of Virginia.
