See highlights at @uiowaprint. | | Ali Hval (Lecturer, Painting and Drawing) has been awarded an Iowa Artist Fellowship. Hval is one of five artists receiving $10,000 from the Iowa Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts to refine her practice over the next year.
alihval.com | @alihval | | | In a ceremony on July 15, the University of Iowa Stanley Museum of Art returned two artworks from its collection from the Benin Kingdom to His Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, at the Benin Palace.
This marks the first time a museum in North America has directly returned artwork stolen during the 1897 massacre to the rightful owner.
Remarks were made by Cory Gundlach (PhD Art History 2019), curator of African art at the Stanley.
Learn more about this historic event in the museum's press release. | | Jiha Moon (MFA Painting and Drawing 2002) completed a new mural, One An Other, this summer at the Stanley Museum of Art.
Incorporating painting, drawing, collage, and ceramics, One An Other is Moon's most ambitious site-specific installation to date. It will be on view in the museum lobby until summer 2026.
Moon is currently Assistant Professor of Art at Florida State University in Tallahassee.

Weinfurter has accepted an Assistant Professor position at Michigan State University, where she will teach 3D and Sculpture courses next year.

Aung is a specialist in Ancient Roman Art and Architecture with a certificate in Public Digital Humanities. | | Bruce Dorfman (BFA 1958) was recently interviewed for Art Grind Podcast at the Art Students League of New York, where he has taught since 1964. Dorfman's work combines painting and assemblage. Watch the full video interview here.
