Summer 2025 Member | Disaster PrepWise AmeriCorps Program

Disaster PrepWise AmeriCorps Program is looking for Summer 2025 members to help older adults prepare for disasters.

The Disaster PrepWise program (DPW) provides step-by-step guidance to create a sharable disaster management plan for individuals who may be at risk in disaster situations. Our program works with older adults, caregivers of older adults, and those who may need extra support during and after disasters.

Member Duties: AmeriCorps members will serve with University of Iowa College of Public Health and local organizations to increase disaster preparedness among older adults in Iowa. DPW AmeriCorps members are currently serving at the College of Public Health, as well as at sites around Johnson and Linn Counties such as County Health Departments, Emergency Management Agencies, and other non-profit organizations. In the past we have also had students serve in more distant counties such as Wapello, Polk, and Washington County.  We work with students’ availability and try to accommodate their location of choice based on where they will be residing for the summer.
