Commencement Apparel is Now Available to Order

Commencement apparel/regalia is now available to order! All graduates are expected to wear academic regalia at their ceremonies.

This fall, the University of Iowa has a new, more branded regalia design to help Hawkeyes celebrate their accomplishments in style. We ask that students participating in commencement use these new gowns and do not borrow from a former student or family member. Learn more about how to obtain your regalia below.

All regalia must be in hand prior to your commencement ceremony. Regalia will not be available to purchase or rent at the ceremonies.

Undergraduate Regalia

Undergraduate students will purchase and keep the University of Iowa bachelor’s gown, tassel, and mortar board using the Herff Jones online ordering portal. Additional optional items, including the stole of gratitude, zipper pull, and souvenir tassel are also available for purchase online at the link below.

Fall 2023 Deadlines for Undergraduates*

Ship to Iowa Hawk Shop Order Deadline
Saturday, Oct. 28

If you choose to have your regalia shipped to the Iowa Hawk Shop and University Bookstore for pickup, you will need to place your order no later than Saturday, Oct. 28. Items shipped to the Iowa Hawk Shop may be picked up from Dec. 4 to 14. There is no shipping fee for this option. Students will pay for their purchase upon ordering on the Herff Jones website.

Ship to Home Order Deadline
Monday, Nov. 13

If you choose to pay to ship your regalia to your home, you will need to place your order no later than Monday, Nov. 13. This option includes a shipping fee and orders will be delivered approximately three weeks after the order is placed. International orders will be accepted, but shipping costs and deliveries may vary.

*Undergraduate students are encouraged to purchase using one of the options above in order to be guaranteed a full selection of sizes and tassel colors. If you miss these ordering deadlines, regalia will be available for purchase at the Iowa Hawk Shop and University Bookstore from Dec. 4–14, but sizes and tassel colors are not guaranteed to be available. Graduate College Regalia

Graduate and professional students participating in the fall 2023 commencement ceremony will rent the University of Iowa master's or doctoral gown using the Herff Jones online ordering portal. Your gown (as well as hood and/or tam, if applicable) must be returned within one week of the ceremony. Master’s students keep their mortar board and tassel. A fine-quality option is also available for purchase.

If you are a master's or doctoral student who would like to rent academic regalia, please use the link below. All fall 2023 Graduate College rentals will be shipped to an address of your choosing.
