Public Defender Mentorship Program

The Iowa State Public Defender will offer a Monday Mentors program beginning at 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 or later if warranted.  It will take place every Monday thereafter at the same time and via the same zoom link provided below.  The idea is to provide a time for young public defenders, contract attorneys, and aspiring law students to ask questions whether related to a specific case, criminal defense in general, or career questions, and obtain feedback and guidance from others similarly situated and from defense attorneys with years of experience. Breakout rooms will be provided as needed to facilitate communication.  We hope you take advantage of this program. If you are interested in public defense, and cannot make the Monday meetings, please reach out to Kimberly DePalma at kdepalma@spd.state.ia.us.

ABA Antitrust Law Section's Janet Steiger Fellowship Project

Sponsored by the ABA Antitrust Law Section and now in its 20th year, the Janet D. Steiger Fellowship Project offers 1Ls and 2Ls an extraordinary opportunity to spend the summer of 2024 working in one of 33 Offices of the State Attorney General and other consumer protection agencies across the country. Fellows receive a $6,000 stipend administered through the host agencies and subject to certain taxes.

The Fellowship is named in memory of Janet Steiger, the first woman to chair the Federal Trade Commission and a steadfast proponent of cooperative state-federal consumer protection law enforcement.
