After a Wayne County, Iowa, resident reported finding an unusually long bone, UI archaeologists discovered it was from a mastodon, a large mammal that roamed North America from about 3.5 million years ago until 10,500 years ago. To celebrate being back on campus, Hancher Auditorium will host its Fall Welcome Concert at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29. Cory Wong, Dawes, and Reyna Tropical will all take to the outdoor stage, and the Hawkeye Drumline will also perform. There will also be food trucks so you can grab a bite to eat.
