The College of Dentistry Hosts Give Kids a Smile Event

The University of Iowa College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics hosted a Give Kids A Smile event on Friday night, February 25, at the Iowa Children’s Museum in the Coral Ridge Mall. Thirty-two children received free oral health education, dental screenings, fluoride treatments, and they took home bags of oral hygiene supplies.

Iowa Represents at Academy of Operative Dentistry Annual Meeting

The University of Iowa College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics was well represented at the 50th Annual Meeting of the Academy of Operative Dentistry. The meeting was in Chicago on Feb 23-25, and Gustavo Avila-Ortiz (Periodontics) and Chris Barwacz (Family Dentistry) gave a presentation on “Optimization of Single-Unit Implant Therapy Leveraging Digital Technologies.” Sandra Guzman-Armstrong (Operative) also presented the Cariology Inaugural Lecture "Caries Management: The Heart and Soul of Operative Dentistry."

The mission of the academy is to promote excellence in operative dentistry by influencing the practice of the health professions in organized dentistry, while promoting education, research, prevention and management of oral diseases to achieve optimal oral health.

Worker's Compensation Policy Reminder

Pre-doctoral students (DDS/DMD candidates) and Master’s students (2 or 3 year programs) who wish to undertake novel Cariology research are invited to apply for the new Student Research Award sponsored by the American Academy of Cariology (AAC).
