Critical Language Scholarship

Are you interested in spending your summer in an intensive language program abroad for free?

The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) is a program funded by the State Department for American college or university students (U.S. citizens only) to study one of the languages and cultures that are critical to the America's engagement with the world. For some languages, no prior language study is required.

Languages offered: Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, Swahili, Turkish, Urdu.

Stanley Awards for International Research Info Sessions

The Stanley Undergraduate and Graduate Awards for International Research are given annually to outstanding University of Iowa students for the pursuit of research and learning activities outside of the United States. Join International Programs' Karen Wachsmuth, associate director of international fellowships, and Kelly O’Berry, IRB education & outreach manager, for a series of virtual information sessions to discuss strategies and timelines for putting together a successful application. 

Undergraduates interested in international studies are especially encouraged to attend. 

This year’s application deadline is Monday, January 29, 2024

Spring 2024 Internship Opportunity

Global Ties Iowa is hiring a Program Intern for the spring 2024 semester! This is a paid ($1,000 stipend), hybrid position that that enhances the effective implementation of Global Ties Iowa programs. Interns play a critical role in the success of Global Ties Iowa's mission and are given the opportunity to work in a professional setting, evolve global cultural competency, and develop and implement projects that may be used to demonstrate work experience to potential employers.

Commitment to Internationalization Lecture featuring Adrien Wing

The University of Iowa is pleased to invite you to this special event in the Commitment to Internationalization Lecture Series, presented by Adrien Wing, associate dean for International and Comparative Law Programs and the Bessie Dutton Murray Professor in the UI College of Law.

This lecture will focus on the post-COVID world and the continuing and growing need to make sure that American students going abroad include people of color, those from poorer backgrounds, and all genders.
