December 3 Faculty Senate Meeting Update

An update from the Funded Retirement and Insurance Committee (FRIC) was featured at the December 3 Senate meeting. FRIC is one of the university's charter committees, which are advisory bodies described in the Policy Manual. Their membership is composed of faculty, staff, and students and they each focus on a different aspect of university-wide services and activities. Faculty Senate is responsible for appointing the faculty members of charter committees. Professor Julie Urmie, the faculty co-chair of FRIC, noted that the committee's annual tasks include consideration of premium rate increases and plan design changes.

Faculty Senate Secretary Professor Craig Just reported that he has been in conversation with central administrators regarding the development of a university budget presentation that would address issues of concern to faculty members. Senators then engaged in small group discussions to determine what they would like to learn about the university budget.

Professor Doris Witt, chair of the Senate's Faculty Policies and Compensation Committee, later joined the meeting for a discussion of ongoing proposed revisions to the faculty section of the university Policy Manual.

You can catch up on Senate and Council meeting activity by reading the meeting minutes, which can be found on the Faculty Senate website here. Minutes are posted once they have been approved at the following meeting.
