New website your one-stop-shop for campus mental health, well-being resources

The university has launched a new website — wellbeing.uiowa.edu — that serves as the comprehensive hub for more than 200 mental health and well-being resources for faculty, staff, and students. The site features an easy-to-use search function that helps you quickly find the information you need, when you need it.

UI welcomes visitors to campus with Hawkeye Wave Way

The UI announced that For the Kids Way, a road running through UI Health Care’s university campus, will be renamed Hawkeye Wave Way. The new name reflects the relationship between the best tradition in college athletics and UI Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital, which sits north of the street.

5 writers with Iowa ties longlisted for National Book Award

Three Iowa graduates — Deborah Jackson Taffa, m.s. RedCherries, and Tony Tulathimutte — and two Iowa faculty — Kaveh Akbar and Elizabeth Willis — are listed among the authors being considered for the prestigious National Book Award. The longlist includes 10 titles each in five categories: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, translated literature, and young people’s literature. Finalists are announced in October and the winners in November.

UI Threat Assessment Team furthering violence prevention efforts

A year after joining UI Campus Safety, the Threat Assessment Team continues to keep the campus community safe with a proactive and compassionate approach. The team focuses on identifying concerning behaviors and intervening early when individuals may pose a threat to themselves or others. Attend roundtable on using AI in the classroom

The Center for Teaching and Office of Teaching, Learning, and Technology will host a roundtable discussion from 9 a.m. to noon on Sept. 27 to discuss the opportunities and challenges of using generative AI in the classroom. The roundtable will take place at University Capitol Centre 2520D and feature panelists from the College of Engineering, Tippie College of Business, and College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

If you or your family members plan to travel abroad and need to apply for a passport, you can do so from the convenience of the passport office in University Capitol Centre. Located in office 1111 on the first level of UCC, the UI passport office makes the process easy and efficient.

Neurodiversity is a complicated concept. An autistic person and a person with a learning disability are both neurodivergent but have different needs. When supporting neurodiversity in the workplace, remember to ask questions and listen with an open mind to whatever the individual tells you. Trust that they are the expert on their own lived experiences.
