Ann McKenna named College of Engineering dean

Ann F. McKenna, vice dean of strategic advancement at the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University and professor of engineering in the Polytechnic School, has been named dean of the University of Iowa College of Engineering. She will begin on Aug. 16.

Beth Goetz named UI’s interim athletics director

Beth Goetz has been named the University of Iowa's interim director of athletics, effective Aug. 1. Goetz has served as deputy director of athletics and chief operating officer since September 2022.

 

UI joins statewide initiative to make Iowa a national leader in biomanufacturing

Researchers at the University of Iowa are playing a key role in boosting Iowa’s reputation as a hub for the biosciences through a new project sponsored by the National Science Foundation. UI, along with Iowa State University, the University of Northern Iowa, Central College, and Dordt University, are partners on the new 
$20 million project.

UI's Durham featured in Hulu docuseries 'Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields'

Meenakshi Gigi Durham, a media and gender studies researcher in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, was interviewed in the popular Hulu documentary, Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields. The movie explores actor and model Brooke Shields’ journey from a sexualized young girl to a woman who embraces her identity and voice. Durham was approached because of her research on the media sexualization of girls. 

 

Pride Month: Main Library Gallery presents Out and About: Queer Life in Iowa City

Kick off Pride Month by viewing Out and About: Queer Life in Iowa City, which runs through June 30 in the Main Library Gallery. The exhibit draws from archival materials to explore the diverse and complex history of LGBTQ life through a university and Iowa City lens.

Friday's Gallery Walk begins at the Stanley Museum of Art

For the first time ever, the Downtown Iowa City Summer Gallery Walk will begin a the UI Stanley Museum of Art. Beginning at 4 p.m. Friday, see the museum's recent acquisition of Willie Cole's Two-Faced Blues and the reinstallation of prints, photos, and textiles in the galleries. Then, enjoy refreshments and live music by the Blake Shaw Duo in the lobby before touring the other Gallery Walk exhibits throughout downtown.

Traffic alert: Downtown streets closing Friday morning for Iowa Arts Festival

Make note that several streets in downtown Iowa City that will be closed from 6 a.m. Friday through late Sunday for the annual Iowa Arts Festival. These closures could affect your commute and parking. Some Iowa City Transit and Cambus routes also will be altered for the weekend. The city of Iowa City website has more details.
