Phase 1 of Emergency Department expansion complete at university campus

University of Iowa Health Care is in the process of expanding the Emergency Department at its university campus to shorten wait times and improve its ability to provide emergency care access to Iowans. Phase 1 of the project is complete, which included the move of the Crisis Stabilization Unit to the second level of the Carver Pavilion. Phase 2 is underway.

New UI mass email policy takes effect Jan. 13

A new mass email policy for campus will go into effect Monday, Jan. 13. The policy, administered by the Office of the Vice President for External Relations and the Office of Strategic Communication, is the result of a campus communications survey and evaluation of existing policies of peer and other Big Ten institutions. The new policy is focused on the needs of the audiences receiving messages rather than solely on the needs of the sender.

New training center for Iowa gymnastics, spirit squad to open this year

Pending approval by the Iowa Board of Regents, Iowa’s new practice home for gymnastics and spirit squads will be named the Nagle-Duda Gymnastics and Spirit Squads Training Center. The name recognizes a generous gift from former Iowa cheerleader Mary Lee Nagle Duda, and the building is expected to open in early 2025.

Iowa student-athletes achieve high graduation success rate

According to the NCAA’s annual report on academic success, UI student-athletes graduated at a rate of 88%, with 12 teams at a score at or above their 2023 score and seven teams above the national average. The NCAA’s graduation success rate provides information on the most-recent six-year graduating class of student-athletes.

Two new video specials highlight how Hawkeyes are shaping our world with their research. Hawkeyes in Flight (streaming now) turns to the skies with UI experts from the Department of Physics and Astronomy, the Iowa Raptor Project, and the Stanley Museum of Art. Make No Bones About It (streaming Jan. 11) shares more about natural history and archaeology, with a performance by the UI Trombone Choir.

Grandparents University, taking place on July 17, is a one-day program offering intergenerational learning opportunities for children ages 8 to 14 and their grandparent or older adult. If you are interested in leading a hands-on session, please submit a course proposal by tomorrow, Jan. 10.
