Advising Update

  1. Early Registration for summer 2022 University of Iowa courses begin is underway. Email meredith-gall@uiowa.edu if you need to be cleared to register for su22. 

  2. April 4, 2022: Last day to drop a semester-length sp22 course with a W; initiate the drop in MyUI then meredith-gall@uiowa.edu for permission.

  3. Search MyUI for sp22 off-cycle (short), 1 – 2 sh courses which you can add now (before they start in March/April). At this link, you may need to change the semester to spring 22 in the top right menu. 

  4.  Fall registration windows (your specific date/time) are now listed on the MyUI homepage (right-hand column).  Make an appointment with Meredith before your registration time to review your plan of study, and to be cleared to register.

The first step is to attend a Discover Study Abroad Session:
Tuesdays at 12:30pm and Fridays at 11am (virtually) or at your convenience on ICON

Thinking about going abroad in spring 2023?
Now is the time to start setting goals, researching programs, and working with your academic advisor to chart a path to go abroad.  Most Spring 2023 applications open in August.  

Apply for or Renew Your Passport
If you already have a passport, make sure it hasn't expired.  Most passport renewals can be done by mail. If you need a passport, don't wait to apply for one!

Research Fellowships and Undergraduate Library Research Award

Iowa Center for Research by Undergraduates offers Research Fellowships

Summer: Apply by April 1st for an ICRU Research Summer Fellowship to support your research with a mentor. $2,500 for 15-20 hours/week for 10 weeks this summer! For more information, click here.
 
Academic Year: Apply by April 22nd for an ICRU Research 2022-2023 Academic Year fellowship to support your research with a mentor. $2,000 for 5-6 hours/week for the academic year! For more information, click here.
 
Undergraduate Library Research Award
Sponsored by the University of Iowa Libraries, the Undergraduate Library Research Award is awarded to three undergraduate students who have demonstrated creative or innovative research skills in the use, selection, and integration of collections, materials, resources, and services from the UI Libraries in their research. The awards range from $500 to $100 to be used at the student’s own discretion. Click HERE to apply by May 1st

Anne Frank Writing Contest

The University of Iowa Center for Human Rights and the Magid Center for Undergraduate Writing invite UI undergraduates to reflect on and speak out about the legacy of Anne Frank, and her relationship to human rights protection and promotion, through the submission of essays, poetry or creative writing pieces. A distinguished committee from the writing community on campus and the Center for Human Rights will review the submissions and select a winner for recognition at the sapling planting ceremony on April 29. The winner will receive travel support to visit the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C.! The submission deadline is April 15, 2022. Contest Info

The Future is Now: Climate Change and the Global Water Crisis and Mad Max: Fury Road
March 22, from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. at FilmScene
The Iowa Global Health Network and International Programs are proud to sponsor the opening event for FilmScene's Science on The Screen Series, featuring the film Mad Max: Fury Road and a pre-show presentation entitled "The Future is Now: Climate Change and the Global Water Crisis?" followed by a post-show reception. Using the film to spark interest and conversations about environmental justice, Eric Tate ,associate professor of geographical and sustainability sciences at the University of Iowa, Mazahir Salih ,executive director of the Center for Worker Justice of Eastern Iowa, and Stratis Giannakouros, director of the University of Iowa Office of Sustainability, will deliver a pre-show presentation discussing the topic of global water scarcity and climate change. Admission is $5, with tickets available from FilmScene.

Area Refugees and Immigrants in Pursuit of Higher Education (ICFRC Program)

The panel will discuss the lived experiences of refugee and immigrant students and their families as they pursue admission to and persist through Iowa’s colleges and universities. They will explain some of the support programs and resources available in the state. And they will share how increasingly diversifying campuses of all types are more vibrant for everyone, particularly in learning spaces, with the inclusion of the voices, ideas, and contributions of students from all cultural and national backgrounds. Intergenerational Duties & Rights

This webinar will feature the work of Our Children's Trust, a public interest law firm that represents young people in legal efforts to secure their right to a stable climate. Mat dos Santos, the Managing Attorney at Our Children’s Trust, will talk about climate litigation on behalf of youth in the United States and the movement toward recognition of the right to a sustainable environment internationally.

WorldCanvass - Corruption, Populism, and Democracy
