New mobile app for student success launched today

Today, the University of Iowa launched a new mobile app for students, which will help connect them to academic deadlines and resources. The first version of the app will be used by incoming students during On Iowa!, complete with the scheduled events and campus map. Long before his Broadway show Stereophonic became the most-nominated play in Tony Award history, David Adjmi arrived at the University of Iowa questioning his prospects as a writer and artist. But over the next three years in the Iowa Playwrights Workshop, Adjmi found his voice.

Note this pedestrian detour from VA Bus Loop to fountain entrance

To access the VA Bus Loop bus stop, pedestrians will now need to walk around the south side of the Center for Disabilities and Development (CDD), then around the west side of CDD to the VA Bus Loop. To access Boyd Tower, employees should use the north entrance. This detour is in place while a new road is built that will connect Newton Road to UI Health Care university campus.

UI’s building directory can help you decode meaning of IMUR and UCC

The UI building information directory can help you decode the abbreviations for campus buildings. You’ll find everything from the name of the buildings — Iowa Memorial Union Parking Ramp (IMUR) and University Capitol Centre (UCC) — to their street address, building hours, services, and their locations on a map.

UI professor developing technology to study age-related changes in brain

Vincent Magnotta, professor in the Carver College of Medicine Department of Radiology, has been awarded funding from the National Institutes of Health to study how changes in the brain can lead to neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease. Magnotta plans to develop imaging technology that could lead to early identifications of these diseases.

Break out your '80s attire for Stanley Museum of Art dance party

Relive the 1980s — and celebrate the museum’s newest exhibit showcasing the vibrant work of Keith Haring — at 6 p.m. Aug. 8 in Gibson Square Park, right in front of the museum. The event features a DJ and food truck and is free and open to all. Bring all your friends and family out for some summer fun.

Learn more about taxidermy at Museum of Natural History documentary screening

Coinciding with the World Taxidermy Competition, which will be held in Iowa this year, the Museum of Natural History will host a free screening of the documentary, Stuffed, at 3 p.m. Aug. 10 in its auditorium. The film explores the world of taxidermists, including Allis Markham, who runs an all-female taxidermy business.
