Iowa Trailblazers: The First Black Graduates of the College of Dentistry

Rufus P. Beshears (1909) and Rosalie Reddick Miller (1958) were two of the first Black graduates of the College of Dentistry. Black history month at the College of Dentistry is an opportunity for us to look at our past, celebrate the accomplishments of our esteemed alumni, and drive us to become a more inclusive community for our students, alumni, staff, and faculty.

IASDA Led Service Project: Giving Back to Our Community

IASDA has planned a service project as part of DEI week. They are asking for students, faculty, staff, and residents to join them as they put together oral health kits for resettled refugees in the area today, Friday, February 4, from 12:00 p.m.–1:00 p.m. in Galagan A.

The Iowa Section of the AADOCR Virtual Annual Meeting is February 15

On February 15, the Iowa Section of the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research will hold its annual meeting virtually. Pete Damiano, Bernstein Professor of Dentistry at the University of Iowa and the director of the Public Policy Center is the keynote speaker. Leo Marchini, associate professor in the Department of Preventive and Community Dentistry at the University of Iowa, is the featured speaker. This annual event is an opportunity to showcase the research of leading experts in dentistry, and our faculty, residents, students, and staff. We look forward to you joining us for the virtual event. 

The College of Dentistry Welcomes Sarah Raper

Sarah Raper is a new Support Services Specialist in Clinic Administration and will be working the front desk in Oral Surgery. She previously worked at UIHC as a Prior Authorization representative for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. She is married to Brad and has a rat terrier named Millie. She currently resides in Iowa City. She has four sisters, including an identical twin named Ashley. She enjoys baking, reading, and hiking. Sarah is very excited to be part of the College of Dentistry team!
