Career Center Connection
Career Center Connection

Hello Hawkeyes!

We’re extending a mighty Pomerantz Career Center welcome to all of you! We realize that campus life looks a bit different this semester, but we want you to know that our office continues to provide career advising and assistance with your career needs, questions, and concerns this fall.

We’re excited to announce that we’ll also be sharing Career Center information and happenings with you through this – our new e-newsletter – Career Center Connection! Yes, you've been inundated with mass emails these past couple of weeks, but rest assured, this newsletter is adapted to YOUR career interests in mind. You’ll receive this newsletter only three times this semester; it will be your way to stay updated on Career Center events, services, and resources so you’ll want to make sure to open it as soon as it lands in your inbox!

Which Career Community are you?

We believe the degree you choose to pursue shouldn't limit you to where you want to apply it. That's why the Pomerantz Career Center uses an interest-based career advising model so that the support you receive along your journey towards career success is tailored to you and your own career goals.

We offer 10 Career Communities organized by specific career fields in which you can explore occupations, learn about student organizations and volunteer opportunities, and find job and internship listings. If you haven't chosen a major, exploring each career community can be helpful to decide your path when choosing one or choosing a career.

Still deciding what major is right for you or what to do with it?

Here are 3 things you can do to help:

  1. Taking an assessment can allow you to explore different options based on your natural abilities, skills, personality, and interests. Check out the free career assessments on our website and request access to one or more.
  2. Several Career Advisors are ready to guide you to the path that's right for you. After taking career assessments, make an appointment through MyUI with a Career Advisor to discuss your results and create a plan.
  3. Consider the Handshake app your best friend when it comes to applying for jobs and internships and learning about upcoming job fairs and networking events. Access Handshake to make a profile if you haven't already. Make sure to complete your profile as much as possible, including filling out your different areas of interests. When your done, keep it updated. That's how recruiters find you!
