Help us share your news

Amazing research is conducted all the time at ITI, but we aren't always the best at touting our own successes. The ITI marketing and communications team wants to help, but we need your help. What is going on in your corner of campus? Have you received a new grant or contract or has one been extended? Did you recently publish? Is there an interesting activity in your lab or research? Did one of your students have a 'win'? Tell us. It is not always obvious if and when something warrants attention. Let’s talk through it together.

Also, I want to visit your labs and research spaces (while following appropriate guidance for face coverings, social distancing, etc.), to check in on your work and capture images and video for use on ITI.uiowa.edu, social media, marketing brochures, etc. Please work with me to find a good time.

Please contact me at Brian-Morelli@uiowa.edu.

ITI research students praised on University of Iowa Facebook page

ITI recently launched a new series called ”Inside the Lab: Student Stories,” in which we highlight the students contributing to our labs, their opportunities for hands-on experimentation, and the benefits of student engagement in research. The University of Iowa amplified the feature through its main Facebook page. The post generated lots of buzz. Viewers posted comments such as, "Wonderful group of young women and men. I salute you. Keep up the good work" and "Pretty 'brain worthy' stuff! Good to hear." Indeed.

The post received more than 850 likes, 30 shares, and 34,000 views. Grassroots awareness about ITI and the importance of academic research reinforces the value of University of Iowa and ITI to the State of Iowa and beyond.

Here is a link to the post. Please consider sharing it in your networks.

Also, the student profiles are being added to an online University of Iowa platform called Merit, in which the posts automatically filter to the student's hometown media outlets, their high school guidance office, and their local lawmakers. The students also receive a notice with links to share the post on social media. Again, all of the distribution amplifies the value of UI and ITI.

Patrick Highland, a PhD candidate and test pilot at the Operator Performance Lab, and Kawther Rouabhi, a junior who works with Ananya Sen Gupta, are the first to be featured. Check out the website.

We will put out periodic calls to nominate more students for the feature.

Inside the Lab: Student Stories

Get to know Will Julstrom, a junior from Johnston, Iowa, who is studying chemical engineering. He works in Jun Wang's Atmospheric and Environmental Research Lab and has been conducting research on pyrocumulonimbus clouds with Dr. David Peterson at the Naval Research Lab.

"I hope to pursue a master’s degree, if not a PhD, in the future. In 10 years, I hope to be an atmospheric researcher at NASA. A pipe dream of mine is to someday do remote sensing work with NASA on other planets or moons like Mars or Titan."
