New council to support Veterans, military members at Iowa

More than 500 University of Iowa faculty and staff self-identify as Veteran and military members, with more than 60 in the National Guard or Army Reserves. To offer support and resources to the Veteran and military community, the UI has created a new Veteran and Military Council. Read more about the council’s goals and how to join.

Todd Pettys named interim College of Law dean

Todd Pettys, the H. Blair and Joan V. White Chair in Civil Litigation, has been named the interim dean of the University of Iowa College of Law, effective Jan. 1. Pettys joined the College of Law faculty in 1999, where he specializes in constitutional law, federal courts, and the Supreme Court. He will serve as interim dean until a new dean is in place.

6 interdisciplinary projects secure OVPR seed funding

The Research Development Office has granted seed funding to six projects as part of the Office of the Vice President for Research Interdisciplinary Scholars program. Read more about the projects, which aim to improve human health by developing new methods to assess radon exposure, improving radiation therapy, and understanding causes of serious airway disease.

Reminder: Application for weight management medication pilot program ends Nov. 8

The University of Iowa is offering eligible employees the opportunity to participate in a two-year pilot program that provides insurance coverage for FDA-approved GLP-1 weight management medications. To be entered into a random lottery that will select 500 participants, your applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8.

Relocation of 46 trees to begin this week

This week, the university will begin relocating 46 trees from the site of a planned parking ramp near the Dental Science Building. This work will continue over the next month, depending on conditions. The selected trees are healthy and well-suited for transplantation to other areas on campus. Heretic, the newest thriller movie directed by UI alumni and A Quiet Place screenwriters Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, opens nationwide Friday. You can join the directors for a screening, followed by a Q&A session, at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, at FilmScene.
