Welcome to Colorful Choices!

The goal of this program is to make your plate colorful by filling it with half fruits and vegetables for each meal you eat. Not currently including fruits and vegetables in your meals? That’s okay! Start where you are and focus on one meal at a time.

We encourage you to use the Colorful Choices tracking sheet to see how many meals you fill with half fruits and vegetables each day. If you fill your plate with color, mark it off on the tracker. This tool will hold you accountable, and you will be able to look back at your progress. If you want an on-the-go option, check out this habit tracking app.

Where should I start?

Feeling lost on how to incorporate more fruits and vegetables? Here are some helpful tips to get started.  

  • Build up to achieving all three meals. Start by focusing on one meal a day that is full of fruits and vegetables. What meal would be the easiest for you to start focusing on?
  • Look online or use a recipe book for fresh inspiration. Trying something new can be fun and exciting. You might even find a new favorite recipe. Check out the liveWELL cookbooks for ideas.
  • Invite your family to join in the challenge. Choose a night where you can work together to prepare a meal. This will provide support, encouragement, and quality time with loved ones. 
  • Choose your favorites! Focus on purchasing fruits and vegetables that you enjoy eating. See how you can incorporate them into your meals.

Breakfast Banana Split

Ingredients

  • 1 banana
  • 1/4 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 tablespoons berries
  • 2 tablespoons granola
  • 1 tablespoon cacao nibs
  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter

Instructions

  1. Cut the banana in half lengthwise, remove the peel and place it in a dish.
  2. Combine the Greek yogurt and honey together until smooth and well blended.
  3. Add the yogurt and honey mixture in the middle of the banana slices. Top it with berries, granola and cacao nibs.
  4. Heat the peanut butter in a microwave so it's smooth and runny. Drizzle the peanut butter on top of the banana using a spoon. Enjoy immediately!
