4 faculty named American Association for the Advancement of Science fellows

Four Iowa faculty members — Robert Piper, Clark Stanford, Tina Tootle, and Joshua Weiner — have been named 2024 fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the world’s largest general-scientific society. 4 faculty members honored with Iowa Mid-Career Faculty Scholar Award

Four Iowa faculty members — Mihailis Diamantis, Korey Kennelty, Andrea Luangrath, and Kara Whitaker — have been selected as recipients of the Iowa Mid-Career Faculty Scholar Awards for 2025. The award provides funding to assist tenured associate professors who have an established national or international reputation in their discipline and are exceptional teachers in and outside the classroom.

Tracking federal updates: Additional guidance for Graduate Assistant employment offers

The Graduate College and Employee and Labor Relations has provided updated templates for communicating with applicants, admitted students, and current students about employment. To promote consistency and transparency, these templates emphasize the institution’s long-standing policy that graduate assistantship appointments are, and always have been, dependent on available funding.

Update: New website for Office of Civil Rights Compliance

With the March 27 closure of the Division of Access, Opportunity, and Diversity, a new website has been created for the Office of Civil Rights Compliance. The site provides resources related to sexual misconduct, discrimination, and disabilities, and also allows campus members to report complaints and seek assistance.

Stead Family Children’s Hospital NICU is 1 of 2 in US to receive new designation

The American Academy of Pediatrics has awarded the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at UI Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital a new national designation for providing the highest levels of neonatal care and patient safety. Stead Family Children’s Hospital is Iowa’s only Level 4 NICU, meaning it’s fully equipped to provide care for the tiniest and most critically ill babies.

Hawkeye Parking Ramp

New Hawkeye Parking Ramp now open for hourly parking

The UI’s new Hawkeye Parking Ramp, located north of Kinnick Stadium, is now open for hourly parking. The parking ramp, which opened on time and on budget, has 983 spaces. It was built in anticipation of Parking Ramp 1 being torn down this fall to make way for the new UI Health Care patient care tower.

Anthology Ally provides instructors with real-time feedback and insights on the accessibility of ICON content and automatically generates alternative formats. This tool saves instructors time and allows students to interact with course materials in the way that suits them best.

  • 5 UI faculty named 2025 Hubbard-Walder honorees: Five UI faculty members — Paula Amad, Justin Cosner, Julie Gros-Louis, Jennifer Sterling, and Lori Wallrath — were selected for the 2025 Hubbard-Walder Award for Excellence in Teaching. The award is given to faculty who have demonstrated excellence in a variety of university teaching and have contributed to curriculum and/or program development.
