Construction update: Modernizing facilities for education, research, patient care

The beginning of a transformation is underway at the UI Health Care Medical Center university campus. Numerous projects, both big and small, are in the works that will help our faculty, researchers, and staff provide better care for Iowans, while some will make way for a new patient care tower.

New training center for Iowa gymnastics, spirit squads opens

The Nagle-Duda Gymnastics and Spirit Squads Training Center, Iowa’s new practice home for its gymnastics and spirit squads, is now open. The university will host a dedication for the building, located at 2811 Prairie Meadow Drive, at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 10. Read more about how this facility will transform these athletics programs.

7 UI faculty selected for National Academy of Medicine Emerging Leaders Forum

Seven UI faculty members have been invited to the National Academy of Medicine’s 2025 Emerging Leaders Forum, which takes place April 8–9 in Washington, D.C. The forum is an invitation-only event that brings together exceptional early- and mid-career professionals who show achievement and leadership in biomedical science, health care, health policy, and related fields.

Graduate College dean candidates to participate in open forums

The search committee for the next associate provost for graduate and professional education and dean of the UI Graduate College has announced that two candidates will participate in open forums next week. The name of each candidate will be announced on Iowa Now the day before their forum.

Third-year undergraduate student Seren Castellano named 2025 Goldwater Scholar

Seren Castellano, a third-year undergraduate honors student from Waukee, Iowa, was named a 2025 Goldwater Scholar, the nation’s most prestigious scholarship for students interested in pursuing research careers in the sciences, engineering, and math. Castellano works in the Neiman Lab under the direction of professor of biology Maurine Neiman, and the Evolutionary Anthropology lab under the direction of Drew Kitchen, associate professor of anthropology.

University continues to work with agencies, monitor federal government orders

The Office of the Vice President for Research continues to work closely with partner associations (AAU, APLU), the university’s federal relations team, and Office of General Counsel to monitor the latest agency communications and judicial actions that may affect research on campus. You can also stay up to date on executive orders, department/agency directives, and memos for the research community on the Federal Updates website.

Tour UI Health Care’s North Liberty Campus during April 12 open house

Be among the first to see the new UI Health Care North Liberty campus at an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 12. The event will include hospital tours, student-athlete meet and greets, activities for kids, and more. The North Liberty campus, which opens April 28, will be the home for the UI Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation, which includes UI Sports Medicine.

  • Capitol Street Parking Ramp repairs begin next week: The city of Iowa City will start a long-term project to make repairs to the Capitol Street Parking Ramp (connected to University Capitol Center) on Wednesday, April 9. The entrance on South Clinton Street is closed, and limited public parking is available. Read more about the project and its parking impact.
