FIND collaborates with communities and dentists on the recruitment and establishment of private practice dental offices located in underserved areas in Iowa.
Iowa’s dental care shortage hits home. If you are from rural Iowa, chances are your community is considered a dental health professional shortage area (HPSA). After all, over half of counties in Iowa are federally designated HPSAs, and many more are at risk. Based on data from the Iowa Department of Public Health and the University of Iowa:
- Eighty-seven of Iowa’s counties are dental shortage priority counties.
- Twenty of those counties are considered high priority (with 1 or less full-time dentist or all the dentists are aged 60 or older).
- Four Iowa counties have no dentists, and one county has no full-time dentists.
With an overall shortage of dentists – and many active dentists facing imminent retirement – it is imperative that rural Iowa communities actively recruit new dentists to serve coming generations. | | | "Doctors are highly educated and extensively trained at making difficult diagnoses and performing lifesaving procedures. However, they receive little to no training in business, personal finance, investing, insurance, taxes, estate planning, and asset protection. This book fills in the gaps and will teach you to use your high income to escape from your student loans, provide for your family, build wealth, and stop getting ripped off by unscrupulous financial professionals. Straight talk and clear explanations allow the book to be easily digested by a novice to the subject matter, yet the book also contains advanced concepts specific to physicians you won’t find in other financial books."

But many managers can't read a balance sheet, wouldn't recognize a liquidity ratio, and don't know how to calculate return on investment. Worse, they don't have any idea where the numbers come from or how reliable they really are. In Financial Intelligence, Karen Berman and Joe Knight teach the basics of finance--but with a twist. Financial reporting, they argue, is as much art as science. Because nobody can quantify everything, accountants always rely on estimates, assumptions, and judgment calls. Savvy managers need to know how those sources of possible bias can affect the financials and that sometimes the numbers can be challenged. While providing the foundation for a deep understanding of the financial side of business, the book also arms managers with practical strategies for improving their companies' performance--strategies, such as "managing the balance sheet," that are well understood by financial professionals but rarely shared with their nonfinancial colleagues. Accessible, jargon-free, and filled with entertaining stories of real companies, Financial Intelligence gives nonfinancial managers the financial knowledge and confidence for their everyday work."
