Later this afternoon, we will celebrate commencement day for the Class of 2023! After four years of dental school, this part of your professional and personal journey is complete. Be proud of what you have accomplished, because I know we are. You've overcome so much, and you are poised to make an impact on our profession. I know that my Iowa education has and continues to serve me well. We know that you will carry your knowledge and skill in dentistry and your concern for the well-being of your patients with you. ~Clark Stanford

Join us in-person or virtually for our 2023 Commencement

Later this afternoon at 3:00 p.m., commencement for the University of Iowa Dentistry class of 2023 will place at Hancher Auditorium. UI President Barbara Wilson will deliver the Greeting from the University. Dean Clark Stanford will deliver a welcome and message to graduating class. Morgan Scholtes, of Joliet, Illinois, will be the student speaker. Associate Deans’ Sherry Timmons and Michelle Krupp will present honors and awards. Faculty members Steven Means, Maria Marcela Hernández Luna, Michael Santucci, and John Syrbu will present hoods to the candidates, and graduate program directors will recognize certificate candidates. Please join us in person or virtually as you are able!

Student Research Group Accomplishments for 2022-2023

The Dental Student Research Group at the University of Iowa is one of the premier programs in the country. The accomplishments of participating students over the 2022-2023 year highlight the value and importance of the program.

2023 Department of Periodontics Annual Awards Luncheon

The Department of Periodontics presented three awards at its annual awards luncheon on Wednesday, May 17 to Holly Weber, McKenna Schnack, and Taylor Leos.

2023 Family Dentistry Student Awards

During their fourth year of dental school at Iowa, students become fully competent clinicians who draw from their earlier educational and clinical experiences to comprehensively manage the oral health care needs of their patients as they would in a dental office. The Department of Family Dentistry is responsible for helping fourth-year dental students accomplish this goal so that they are prepared to enter into general practice after graduation. Each year, the the Department of Family Dentistry selects outstanding students based on their body of work. The 2023 Family Dentistry Student Awards were presented during a ceremony held on May 25, 2023.

To the newly minted (later today!) alumni Class of 2023, know that you join elite company. Throughout Iowa's history, Iowa dentists have routinely heard from their colleagues—whether in the military, graduate programs, or private practice—that “we know you will hit the ground running because you’re from Iowa.” You are ready for this! One-hundred years ago, the Class of 1923 graduated and began their careers as dentists. The University of Iowa College of Dentistry has been a leader in the profession over the course of three centuries. The Class of 2023 carries this legacy and proud history with them as they start their careers.
