Advising Update

1. Before the spring 22 semester begins, generate new degree audits to make sure that the courses that you have enrolled in are satisfying your remaining degree requirements. Email meredith-gall@uiowa.edu  with questions.

2. Spring 22 classes begin on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. 

3. January 18 – 24, 2022 = Add and drop sp22 courses on MyUI with no permissions needed!

4. January 31, 2022 = Last day to add a semester length sp22 course, and drop a semester-length sp22 course without a W.  Initiate the add/drop in MyUI, then email for permissions. More info here.

Upcoming Events

Life as an Immigrant in Iowa: Wednesday, January 19, 2022 / Noon/ Zoom

This Iowa City Foreign Relations Council panel will discuss how the experience of moving to Iowa differs for people from different walks of life—refugee, immigrant, documented, undocumented, with familial ties in the area, without familial ties. They will share how local nonprofits, especially ethnic community-based organizations (ECBOs), support new Iowans. And they will offer insights into what Iowans, born and raised in the state or elsewhere in the US, should know about their neighbors who have just arrived, those who have been here a longer period, and how we can be welcoming and supportive of both groups. The Global Implications of MeToo: Tuesday, February 1st / 5:30 - 7:00PM/ Zoom

A group of prominent feminist scholars will join WorldCanvass for a virtual discussion. With expertise on MeToo in the United States, United Kingdom, Brazil, France, India, Korea, and various parts of Africa, panelists will not only reflect on the aspect of solidarity behind MeToo but on the backlash that accompanies it. Would you like to teach English, study, or do research or creative work abroad for an academic year at no cost? Please join UI Fulbright Program Advisor Karen Wachsmuth, Fulbright Faculty Mentors, current UI Fulbright grantees, and alumni to find out more about applying for a Fulbright! 2022-23 Fair Trade Campaigns Fellowship

Fair Trade Campaigns is a powerful grassroots movement mobilizing thousands of conscious consumers and Fair Trade advocates on campuses and in communities across the U.S. Fellows will gain significant professional development experience, learn valuable advocacy and organizing skills, and benefit from extensive training on, and exposure to, a range of systems and processes utilized in both the for and non-profit sectors. Compensation consists of a mix of academic credit and a modest stipend. The fellowship is a 14-month commitment, beginning March 14, 2022 and ending May 19, 2023. Future Leaders in Public Service Internship Program

The Future Leaders in Public Service Internship Program is recruiting young talent to join the federal workforce in support of the Department of Transportation and the Department of Commerce. The program places students with critically needed skills into paid internships and aims to develop a diverse pool of young  talent for these agencies.  Apply by January 31st for a summer internship.

Intern (unpaid) or Volunteer with Local Organizations

Local Nonprofits such as ICFRC, CIVIC, IC Compassion, Center for Worker Justice, and the Iowa International Center regularly seek interns or volunteers.

Scholarships and Funding

CLAS Scholarship Applications 2022-2023 Academic Year

The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences currently supports over 80 different scholarships and all annual CLAS undergraduate scholarship applications are currently located on the Iowa Scholarship Portal.  For more details, click here. 

Hawkeye Internship Grants

Need money during your internship while gaining career experience? Apply for the Hawkeye Experience Grant!

This grant awards stipends in variable amounts for undergraduate students at the University of Iowa who are involved in applied learning experiences outside of the classroom. The Hawkeye Experience Grant Application for Summer 2022 opens on January 18th in the Iowa Scholarship Portal. What counts as an ‘experience’? A summer experience: internship, internship abroad through the Office of Study Abroad, researchers or creative scholarship, or community-engagement or service-learning! What does the grant help with?
