Michael Welsh, University of Iowa physician and professor of internal medicine, has received the 2025 Canada Gairdner International Award for his research on cystic fibrosis, which paved the way to new therapies that have transformed the health and life expectancy of people with the disease.

At the April Iowa Board of Regents meeting, University of Iowa Health Care is seeking approval of three new leases in family and community medicine, disabilities and development, and cancer care. By adding new access points for these services, patients will be able to receive the care they need, close to home.

New security feature added to access documents, information using Duo Verified Push

Cyberattacks targeting payroll and direct deposit information are on the rise, and the UI is taking steps to protect you. Starting today, Duo Verified Push will be enabled campuswide — including UI Health Care — to strengthen two-factor authentication. This new security feature will require users to enter a three-digit code presented on screen into the Duo Mobile App when a service requires two-factor authentication.

  • Update your beneficiaries for life insurance, retirement plan: If it’s been a while since you last updated designated beneficiaries on your life insurance and retirement plan, it’s a good idea to review that information and make changes. Read more about how to update these accounts if needed.
  • Recognize exceptional individuals with honorary degree nominations: Nominations are due Thursday, May 1, for honorary degree recipients in the 2025-26 academic year. If you know someone who should be recognized for their extraordinary achievements, submit materials to provost-office@uiowa.edu.
