ARPA-H launches its first research program to tackle treatment challenges with osteoarthritis
The program, called Novel Innovations for Tissue Regeneration in Osteoarthritis (NITRO), is the first of several programs that ARPA-H intends to launch this year. The program focuses on three technical areas: injectable bone regeneratives, injectable cartilage regeneratives, and replacement joints built from human cells. A Proposers' Day for interested research teams, or performers, is scheduled for June 15, 2023, register by June 8 for ARPA-H NITRO Proposers' Day.

CDC issues a request for applications for a center for outbreak analytics and disease modeling
This cooperative agreement will develop a network of innovators to design, prototype, test, and scale innovative capabilities for improving analytics, modeling and forecasting to support decision makers during outbreaks of infectious diseases (both known and newly emerging) in the United States. The purpose of this cooperative agreement program is to save lives through improving public health response to disease threats.

DOD: Defense Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (DEPSCoR) - Capacity Building

Description: The aim of DEPSCoR – Capacity Building is to improve the research capabilities at institutions of higher education (IHEs) in eligible States/Territories to perform competitive basic research in science and engineering that is relevant to the DoD mission and reflect national security priorities. Innovative approaches to improving basic research capacity beyond the initial seed capacity of the IHE are highly encouraged.

HRSA: Institute for Home Visiting Workforce Development and Jackie Walorski Center for Evidence-Based Case Management

Description: The Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Program supports voluntary, evidence-based home visiting services for pregnant people and parents with young children up to kindergarten entry. The purpose of the Institute is to provide support for home visiting programs to expand, support, and retain a diverse and qualified workforce.

NIH: Emergency Medicine Research Career Development Program in the Neurological Sciences (EMRCDP-NS) (K12 - No Independent Clinical Trial Allowed)

Description: The purpose of this NOFO is to invite applications to support a national program of mentored research career development for junior emergency medicine faculty at institutions nationwide that support emergency medicine physicians to conduct research. The goal of the program is to expand the cadre of emergency medicine investigators trained to conduct research into neurological disorders, which makes use of their expertise associated with their clinical experience as emergency medicine clinicians.

NIH: HEAL Initiative Partnerships to Advance INterdisciplinary (PAIN) Training in Clinical Pain Research: The HEAL PAIN Cohort Program (T90/R90 Independent Clinical Trial Not Allowed)

Description: To bolster the dwindling clinical pain research workforce, the NIH HEAL Initiative® Partnership to Advance INterdisciplinary (PAIN) Training in Clinical Pain Research (the HEAL PAIN Cohort Program) will support interdisciplinary postdoctoral training to promote the next generation of independent clinical pain researchers. Program mentors will be expected to provide training in clinical pain research and in one or more fields that have not traditionally been represented in pain research (e.g., engineering; social sciences; epidemiology; anthropology; biostatistics; computer sciences; demography; bioengineering; addiction medicine; public health; or mental health/behavioral health), with the aim of broadening the foci of clinical pain research training.

NIH: Medical Scientist Training Program (T32)

Description: The goal of the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) is to develop a diverse pool of highly trained clinician-scientist leaders available to meet the Nation’s biomedical research needs. Specifically, this FOA provides support to eligible domestic institutions to develop and implement effective, evidence-informed approaches to integrated dual-degree training leading to the award of both clinical degrees, e.g., M.D., D.O., D.V.M., D.D.S., Pharm.D., and research doctorate degrees (Ph.D.).
Limitation: one application per institution. Please note the UI has a current award focused on genetics from the Dept. of Biology. New applications should not be overlapping with the current program.

NIH: Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Awards (IRACDA) (K12 - Independent Clinical Trial Not Allowed)

Description: The Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Award (IRACDA) Program provides support for a mentored postdoctoral research experience at a research-intensive institution combined with an opportunity to develop critical teaching and mentoring skills at a teaching-intensive partner institution with a diverse student population. Accordingly, the IRACDA program requires effective partnerships between a research-intensive institution and a teaching-intensive partner institution that has a historical mission or a demonstrated commitment to educating students from groups underrepresented in the biomedical research workforce.
