NIH requests applications to the Alzheimer’s Drug-Development Program (U01 Clinical Trial Optional).
The National Institute on Aging (NIA) invites applications for the U01 Alzheimer’s Drug-Development Program. The program invites applications proposing pre-clinical and early stage clinical (Phase I) development of novel small-molecule and biologic drug candidates that aim to prevent Alzheimer's disease (AD), slow its progression, or treat its cognitive and behavioral symptoms. Grant recipients will receive funding for therapy development activities, such as the following:
- Medicinal chemistry
- Pharmacokinetics (PK)
- Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion, Toxicology (ADMET)
- Efficacy in animal models
- Development of biomarkers for target engagement
- Formulation development chemical synthesis under Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
- Investigational New Drug (IND) enabling studies
- Initial Phase I clinical testing

EGFP aims to enhance the capacity and competitiveness of EPSCoR jurisdictions by providing funding to graduate degree-awarding institutions to support NSF EPSCoR Graduate Fellows as they pursue graduate degrees in the disciplines specified by the NSF Directorates and Office that are participating in the EGFP funding program.
