Your Voice for a Better UI

April 2022

Annual Staff Council Elections are Underway

It's time to share your voice by voting for your Shared Governance Representative(s) as the voting process is now open for UI Staff Council elections!  If your position falls into one of the following job function categories, you have the opportunity to elect your representative(s) for a 3-year term:

- Administration/Audit/Compliance/Legal/Risk Management (PA, PN) [3 openings]
- Behavioral Health/Health Care (PJ, PV) [6 openings]
- Engineering, Architecture, Facilities Management ((PF, PW) [1 opening]
- Human Resources (PG) [1 opening]
- Information Technology (PI) [1 opening]
- Research/Scientific Services (PH, PR) [1 opening]
(Unsure of your job function category?  Please check the 1st two letters of your job code in the university directory.)

You would have received an email with a ballot link on April 6 if your position sits in an eligible job function category.  If you haven't already voted, please don't delay!  Voting closes on Wednesday April 20.   

5 outdoor locations on campus to visit this spring

Spring is here, so it’s prime time to visit outdoor spaces on our beautiful campus. Time outdoors is seen to have positive physical, social, and mental health benefits, and align with recommendations of the University’s LiveWell mission to support employee wellbeing. We’ve created a selection of recommendations - some are old favorites, some are brand new, and some you may never have seen. We’d love for you to share your favorite outdoor campus places. Staff Council represents Staff at Hawkeye Caucus

The contributions of University of Iowa staff were represented during the Hawkeye takeover at the State Capitol in Des Moines on March 31. Staff Council was among dozens of units and organizations across campus to send representatives to the Hawkeye Caucus, in which Black and Gold fills the main rotunda in the Capitol building. The purpose is to engage lawmakers, staff, and visitors and grow awareness about the value of the University. Read more...

Jane Dorman – Volunteer Staff spotlight

Volunteer appreciation week is April 17-23, 2022. In honor of appreciation week, we’d like to highlight the incredible volunteer work of one of our staff members, Jane Dorman. Jane started working at the University of Iowa 29 years ago, in University Housing. It was 1993, the year of a huge flood, and her role included crisis mitigation and running the summer conference operation. Jane jokes that she started this job with “trial by water instead of by fire”. Read more...

Save the Date: Legislative Candidates Forum on April 18, hosted by Staff Council and Faculty Senate

Save the date: The University of Iowa Staff Council and the Faculty Senate are co-hosting a candidate forum for the three districts that represent campus and will appear on the June primary ballot. The hybrid event will occur the evening of Monday, April 18th from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the 2nd floor Ballroom of the Iowa Memorial Union, and virtually (join via Zoom at https://uiowa.zoom.us/j/92309671927)

Staff Council Celebrates Staff Longevity Milestones

Staff Council is pleased to celebrate and acknowledge our Professional and Scientific and Merit/Supervisory/Confidential staff who have reached 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, or 50+ years of continuous service through our service-recognition program.  Longevity Award winners receive a certificate and letter of appreciation from the Office of the President.
