Commencement Week is Here!

Welcome to fall 2021 commencement. We are excited to welcome graduates and guests back to in-person ceremonies!

Fall 2021 commencement ceremonies will begin with the College of Education on December 16 and end with the College of Engineering on December 19. Ceremonies will be held in Carver-Hawkeye Arena and Hancher Auditorium.

Face masks are strongly encouraged at all University of Iowa events and venues. 

Tickets are not required and seating is not limited for any fall 2021 collegiate commencement ceremony. 

 

Things to keep in mind...

Please take a look below at some items to remember before the day of the ceremony.

Apparel

Official apparel is now available! 

Undergraduate Students - please visit the Iowa Hawk Shop or check-out their website.

Graduate Students - please visit the Herff Jones Website.

Please note: Apparel will not be available at either venue the day of your ceremony. 

Commemorative Slides

Students can download a branded University of Iowa graduation slide from the RSVP portal in MyUI to share with family and friends. The commemorative slide is for graduate's use only; the slide will not be displayed during the ceremony or broadcast in the livestream.

Commencement Program

All graduates will receive a commencement program the day of the ceremony.

Diploma Covers

Fall 2021 graduates can pick up a complimentary diploma cover from November 29 to December 17, 2021 at the IVETS Office located on the second floor of Calvin Hall in room 207. Pick up hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Venue Information

Carver-Hawkeye Arena

Doors to the arena will open one hour prior to the start of the ceremony. Guests should use the South or West doors; graduates can use either or those entrances or the Graduate Only East Doors for express entry. 

Carver-Hawkeye Arena now has a clear bag policy. Everyone will be asked to open their coats or graduation gown for visual inspection.

No backpacks, large bags, packages, wrapped gifts, balloons, or outside food and beverage (with the exception of one factory sealed or empty reusable water bottle) are allowed at Carver-Hawkeye Arena during this event.

Guests may choose to sit anywhere in the arena stands once inside the venue. Graduates can descend to the floor and find the appropriate section to retrieve their name card and find a seat. Graduates should not take anything (besides their phone) to the floor.

Hancher Auditorium

Doors to the auditorium will open one hour prior to the ceremony.

Seating is at 100% venue capacity for the audience.

It is recommended that bags and coats be left in vehicle trunks.

Hand sanitizer is available at all building and seating entrances.

Disposable masks and facial tissues are available at building entrances 1 and 2.

Livestreams and Ceremony Videos

Livestreams

All ceremonies will premiere at their scheduled time and day and will be livestreamed with captions enabled. The livestream will be located on the collegiate ceremony page on commencement.uiowa.edu

Every college will have their own commencement ceremony, tailored to their college and including messages from a variety of individuals chosen specifically to honor and address graduates of that college. Degrees will be conferred and graduates who have RSVP'd Yes will be individually recognized during the virtual commencements. 

 

Ceremony Videos

If you cannot tune in during the premiere, the ceremonies will be available for viewing on the University of Iowa YouTube channel after the premiere concludes.
