Meet these young heroes, the 2023 Kid Captains

We are so excited to announce the 2023 Kid Captains! These are the kids whose stories of bravery will represent Stead Family Children's Hospital during the Hawkeye football season. This year marks the 14th season of the Kid Captain program, which started in 2009 as a partnership between the hospital and the football team to honor pediatric patients and celebrate their incredible stories.

Creating an effective syllabus is important, and so is including the information required by the university. Student course policies and resources for the upcoming semester, including classroom expectations, mental health and student support resources, and more, can be found on the Office of the Provost website.

Gartner subscription offers free access to leading tech research

All students, faculty, and staff at Iowa now have access to a new tool for learning about technology trends and topics: an online library from Gartner, a company that provides technology research and advice. Gartner's articles and webinars help demystify topics such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data analytics, and much more.

UI recognized for Clery compliance

The University of Iowa is the proud recipient of an annual National Association of Clery Compliance Officers and Professionals Award, which recognizes institutions that have gone above and beyond to integrate compliance into the day-to-day operations of key units that support compliance. Same building, new name: Iowa Bioscience Innovation Facility

The former College of Pharmacy building—the one sometimes referred to as "the silver bullet"—now has a new name: the Iowa Bioscience Innovation Facility (IBIF). Located at 115 S. Grand Ave., the building was renamed earlier this year to reflect its new purpose. (ICYMI: The new College of Pharmacy building at 180 S. Grand Ave. opened in 2019.)

UI art professor builds bike, rides it across Iceland to collect climate data

Steve McGuire, professor and director of the UI School of Art and Art History and leader of the design-build-ride program, spent July recording climate data while pedaling 601 miles across Iceland on a bicycle he designed and built. The trip, he says, demonstrates the purpose of the program: taking students through the process of designing and building their own bike, which they are then able to fully operate.

Get fired up for football: Annual Kids' Day at Kinnick is Saturday

The Hawkeye football team will host its annual Kids' Day at Kinnick on Saturday, Aug. 12. Pre-practice activities will begin in the Krause Family Plaza at the south end of the stadium at 10 a.m. Gates open at 11 a.m. and practice will begin at noon. The free event also includes an introduction of the 2023 Kid Captains.
