UI receives grant to develop new treatment for ovarian cancer

A University of Iowa research team led by Jill Kolesar, UI College of Pharmacy dean and professor, has received an $8.8 million grant to develop a promising new treatment for ovarian cancer. The award will support the first clinical trial for this therapy and is the next step in making it available to women who need it.

International Writing Program co-founder Hualing Engle dies at 99

Hualing Nieh Engle, co-founder of the University of Iowa’s famed International Writing Program, has died at the age of 99. Engle, who along with her husband, Paul, founded the program in 1967, was a novelist, translator, and editor who played an active role in the IWP for more than 50 years. Show your Hawkeye pride at Homecoming

This week’s Homecoming activities are in full swing, but there are still plenty of ways to celebrate. Iowa SHOUT at 7:30 p.m. today will showcase the talents of our students, and the Homecoming parade will kick off at 5:45 p.m. Friday, followed by the concert with Magdalena Bay and The 502s. Check the schedule of events to see all the ways to join in on the fun.

Upcoming street closures, no-parking zones for Homecoming parade

Ahead of the Homecoming parade on Friday, Oct. 25, you should review when and where no-parking zones and street closures will be enforced to best plan your commute to and from work. No-parking zones will be enforced starting at noon Friday in some areas, and Tower Place Parking Ramp, 335 Iowa Ave., will close at 5 p.m. Street closures will begin at 4 p.m., with most streets reopening at 8 p.m. except for Clinton Street between Washington and Jefferson streets and Iowa Avenue, between Clinton and Dubuque streets.

UI honors 6 Hawkeye Distinguished Veterans Award recipients

Six members of the UI community who served in the United States Army or United States Navy are being honored with the 2024 Hawkeye Distinguished Veterans Award. Read more about each of this year’s recipients, and plan to attend the ceremony honoring their service at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 1 in the Richey Ballroom at the Iowa Memorial Union.
