Housing Application Updates
Housing Application Updates

A message to students

Dear Hawkeye,

This email contains several updates regarding Academic Year 2022-23 housing on campus.

COVID-19 Housing and Precautions

Due to the size of the incoming class, the University of Iowa will have limited space available in the Iowa House Hotel for students wishing to isolate or quarantine due to COVID-19. As with any illness, we encourage students to have a plan if they or their roommate becomes sick. Students may choose to return home or find alternate housing off campus in the event that they or their roommate needs to isolate or quarantine.

Students are encouraged to have a plan in place if they test positive for COVID-19 and should update their plan in the housing application portal prior to move-in this August. Due to this change in our COVID-19 support protocol, we are offering a new binding date for all current students with a housing contract. You can be released from your housing contract until 11:59 p.m. on July 14, 2022, at no additional cost to you. If you choose to do so, check here to cancel your on campus housing for fall.

The university strongly encourages students to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and booster prior to the start of the semester. The vaccine is free of charge no matter where you are vaccinated. UI Student Health also offers vaccines or boosters for all students. You can find walk-in and appointment information on their webpage. All students who have registered for classes this fall are eligible to use Student Health Services this summer.  For information regarding COVID-19 and testing, please visit studenthealth.uiowa.edu

Parklawn Hall Reopening

Due to strong demand for on-campus housing this fall, University Housing and Dining will be reopening Parklawn Hall beginning this academic year. Parklawn is located near Hancher Auditorium and will house 137 students in studio and one-bedroom apartments. These rooms will be in double and triple occupancy. Parklawn will have a full time hall coordinator and resident assistant staff, along with desk operations to support residents.

Expanded Housing Reinstated

There will be expanded housing in Rienow, Slater, and Stanley Halls this fall to accommodate all first year Hawkeyes who want to live on campus. Expanded housing is a residence hall floor lounge converted into a student room, shared by six residents. Access to the room is limited to the students assigned, with a lock on the door and privacy. As traditional rooms become available throughout the semester, students will be assigned new rooms and will move based on their application date.

Loft Configuration and Meal Plan Changes

Students may log in to their housing portal to modify their loft configuration and meal plan selections until 11:59 p.m. on July 8, 2022. Meal plan changes will be available again Aug. 8 through Sept 2. on the dining website.
