Deadlines are approaching quickly for several listings. | | | CLAS is a powerhouse of research, discovery, and creativity. That is reflected in the grants our faculty receive as they work to advance scholarship in their areas of study. Please congratulate the following faculty on their recent awards. | | | Celebrating student success | | | | The Goldwater Scholarship is the premier undergraduate scholarship for students pursuing careers in mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering. The scholarship eclipsed 10,000 total recipients in 2023.
| | | This year’s awardees come from disciplines as different as speech language pathology, English and creative writing, neuroscience, political science, history, and anthropology. | | | | The Office of the Vice President for Research recognized five exceptional students with its 2023 Discovery and Innovation Awards program. All have majors or minors in CLAS. Two CLAS faculty members also received this award, Lina-Maria Murillo and Susan Meerdink. | | | CLAS students are doing amazing work. Learn more about the research, creative projects, and interests of playwright graduate student Christopher Lysik, recently graduated neuroscience undergraduate student Manuela Lizarazu, and history graduate student Samuel Boucher. | | | | The Daily Iowan Documentary Workshop debuted its second feature-length documentary, Lost in the In-Between: Graduating into 2020, in May to a sold-out audience at FilmScene. Its first film, Chasing Greatness: Wrestling Life, premiered in March on the Big Ten Network.
| | | CLAS graduate student Ariane Thomas studies ancient dogs from colonial America to provide greater insight into the past. She went to Jamestown, Virginia, to study ancient dogs brought by colonists. | | | | The International Contemporary Furniture Fair is the most prestigious platform for design schools and independent designers in the U.S. Twelve graduate and undergraduate students recently exhibited work they created during their 3D design courses.
| | | Follow along on Instagram while a cohort of CLAS students, led by faculty members Adam Brummett and Stratis Giannakouros, explore sustainable chemistry research along the Rhine River in Germany, France, and Switzerland. Students will take over the CLAS IG during their travels through June 3. | | | |
