NIH funds Guymon Group graduate research assistant to develop new polymer coating technology

With three years of funding from the National Institutes of Health, Ryan Horne, a PhD student in the University of Iowa Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, is developing a new coating that limits or even prevents unwanted surface debris. 

ITI grad research assistant awarded Fulbright to Germany

Marisol Contreras, a PhD candidate in chemical engineering at the University of Iowa and a graduate research assistant in the Syed Mubeen Research Group at the University of Iowa Technology Institute, is the winner of a Fulbright Study/Research grant in Chemical Engineering to Germany for 2021-22.

Gomes co-PI on team awarded grant to 'Jumpstart' quantum simulation program at UI

Joe Gomes, a University of Iowa assistant professor of chemical and biochemical engineering and an Iowa Technology Institute faculty affiliate, is a co-principal investigator on a team awarded a Jumpstarting Tomorrow Initiative grant to start a quantum simulation (QSim) program.

Spurred by the recent high-profile Blue Origin and Virgin Galactic launches, one of University of Iowa's top scientists in space-based research joined News Talk 1540 KXEL AM radio of Waterloo for a wide-ranging discussion as interest in space travel and curiosity about the cosmos surges.

Get to know Blake Bryson.

The PhD candidate from Limerick, Ireland is studying chemical engineering under the mentorship of Syed Mubeen, assistant professor of chemical and biomedical engineering, in the Syed Mubeen Research Group.

“The ITI houses numerous prominent researchers who are tackling some of the world's biggest problems. I see the ITI as a place where I can collaborate with these domain experts to build the skillset needed to begin addressing these issues.”
