  • Summer Policy Research Institute: SPRI is a 6-week program for University of Iowa undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in policy research. Beginning in 2022, SPRI will offer two tracks – one for students with no (or little) experience with social science research; and a second track for students who know the basics of social science research and have some experience working on a research team. Attend the upcoming information session on Friday, April 15th at 12 PM on Zoom.
  • Kenneth J. Cmiel Internship Funding Program:  Each year, the UICHR awards funding to students who have secured a summer internship with a local, national or international non-governmental organization or governmental agency engaged in human rights related advocacy, research or education. Program funds cover travel and living expenses associated with the internship.  The 2022 application and instructions may be found here. The deadline for the 2022 application is Friday, April 8 at 5:00 pm (CT). We encourage students to reach out to UICHR staff to explore the eligibility of their internships and receive help in creating a strong application. Please contact Dr. Jo Butterfield, the program administrator, with questions.

Learn how to craft an effective Cmiel and funding application by attending a virtual application workshop.
